Episode 49

January 16th, 2009

France and England’s exit from the competition marked the demise of my outstanding bets, and I lost again when Holland failed to beat Sweden in normal time (penalty shootouts are not valid on Blue Square). I have now put a ÂŁ1 on the Czech Republic to beat Greece in the semis – surely the Greeks have rode their luck just about as far as possible?

Time for a change of sports methinks. Tiger Tim Henman has now inherited the country’s hopes for sporting glory so I transferred my allegience to him and he duly beat Mark Phillipousis to get to the Wimbledon quarter finals and win me 61p, but not before giving us all a bit of a scare. Tim never seems to go all the way in the competition however, so if I get a chance to bet on him not to win the final then I will take it!
