Episode 21

June 20th, 2008

I have got to stop betting on Man Utd. I now feel I am solely responsible for their recent bad run. I feel as though it is because I am betting on them that they are losing. Ridiculous I know but that is how I feel. I have supported them since I was about 9 years of age so I want them to win but every time I have bet on them they have lost – or rather they drew 1-1 on the night but lost over the two matches against Porto. They should have won last night because they had a perfectly good Paul Scholes goal disallowed for offside when three players were actually playing him onside. However, as an obviously shocked Alex Ferguson pointed out after the match, that is indeed football.

And that is indeed the end of my “double” bet because United had to win as well as Arsenal tomorrow night for me to win. Not only that, I also had 50p on Van Nistelrooy to score, which he didn’t. And he always scores – except for when I bet on it happening. So now I am down. Very down. Down to my last measly ÂŁ1.18 in fact. I am going to have to consider my next bet very carefully because I need to recover or I will have failed and Blue Square will have won.

OK – it has to be Arsenal. 50p on The Arse to beat Celta Vigo in the Champions League this evening. If they win I will make 20p. If they lose I will have just 68p to gamble. It’s a long way back.
