One Man's Experiment With Gambling

John "The Stake" Bookman

the writer with some dosh

"It's a mug's game". Or is it? I mean, does it have to be? Or can it actually be a way to make money at a far higher rate of interest than you would get at a bank? If you are sensible and level-headed can you beat the bookies and make some easy dough?

Ok, this is the plan. From a very small initial stake fund of just £10, I intend to find out how much profit we can make (if any) by backing only "sure bets". By "sure bets" I mean (almost) guaranteed winners. The odds are not great on "sure bets" but if you stake £5 and win just £1 and keep your stake money then in reality that is a good return is it not? So it's £10 to play with and once that's gone, it's gone. I am not into Paul Merson style bets of tens of thousands of pounds (besides I don't have that kind of money). Yes, this is a controlled experiment with no room for hot-headed emotion.

Let the game commence.
